I founded Eastboard Consoles in 1979, as a design, manufacturing, and installation company, dedicated to creating specialized environments for television and radio broadcasting. This emerging market grew from the recognition that addressing workplace ergonomics leads to greater staff well-being, and enhanced productivity. Custom consoles and technical furniture were increasingly in demand by clients worldwide, for projects ranging from television station control rooms, to corporate production facilities and cable networks, and Eastboard was in the vanguard. Our client base grew quickly, and we become one of the leaders in the field, outfitting new broadcasting facilites for NBC News, Fox Television, and NFL Films with our consoles, along with dozens of local stations and video post-production facilities. A major highlight was working with CBS for the 1996 Nagano Olympics, where Eastboard designed, built and installed all the consoles in the International Broadcast Center.

In 2005, Eastboard Consoles was acquired by the A/S Custom Furniture Company, and continues as an active company division today, providing consoles and technical furniture for broadcast facility projects worldwide. I’m Chief Design Officer of the new division, and A/S Custom is now SGEDESIGNS’ largest client.

Creating these highly customized, ergonomic workstations and furniture has been the primary direction of my industrial design work for the last 40 years. However, broadcasting equipment has become more standardized, and accordingly, technical furniture has become simpler, with fewer requirements for custom solutions; control rooms are now more frequently oufitted with standard, off-the-shelf consoles. And so, to address this new marketplace, I created a line of basic, modular consoles for A/S Custom, called RACKBLOCKS, and it’s currently the most popular design the division produces. See the latest Eastboard projects at:
